It is widely advertised as helping you to build muscle mass as the muscles use the additional Glutamine to bulk up. However, what actually happens is your intestines get there first. Any extra Glutamine your body has is soaked up by the intestines which can help with stomach disorder symptoms. So if your main goal is to build up your muscle mass while taking this supplement, you’d be best looking at other options.

Vitamin D

This is by far one of the most common supplements out there, yet various studies have shown it has no positive changes on the health. Vitamin D can be found in numerous foods, but our main source is direct sunlight. A large portion of people aren’t actually getting enough of this essential vitamin and so they often turn to supplements. Unfortunately while they can have some positive effect on bone health, these supplements are largely ineffective and a complete waste of money.

Vitamin C

Potentially the most common supplement out there, Vitamin C is taken for a wide range of reasons. Most commonly it is known to improve the immune system, reducing the chances of developing colds and other illnesses. In bodybuilding circles, Vitamin C supplements are taken to provide energy and general health and wellbeing. After all, you can’t perform at your best if your immune system is weak. The trouble is, there isn’t actually any evidence to back up that taking a Vitamin C supplement will reduce your chances of getting colds and other illnesses. In fact, if you take more than 2000mg a day, you could be increasing your risk of kidney stones a condition you definitely don’t want to end up with!

 

Acai weight loss supplements

One ingredient you’ll often come across when researching weight loss supplements is acai berry. This has been given a lot of media attention and has gained a reputation as an effective tool in the aid of weight loss. However, the bad news is there is actually little to no evidence available to back these claims up. There is also not enough information available on the ingredient to know whether it has many side effects. It is officially known as Conjugated Linoleic Acid and it is actually found naturally within dairy foods and meat. The reason it has become so popular is because studies were carried out on rodents which showed a reduction in body fat. However, no tests have been carried out on humans and the truth is, it actually does very little for the human body. You’d be much better off having a glass of milk than you would taking this supplement.

These are just some of the supplements available on the market that don’t work. Before taking anything, it is highly recommended that you do your research. There are some great, effective supplements out there; you just need to wade through the massive amount of fad products to find them. It is also recommended that you consult a doctor before you start taking any supplement. Some are known to react with certain medications and aren’t as safe as you might think.
